LG is showing a beautiful little 15 inch OLED display. It's still a prototype and not ready for production. I was told at least 2 years by booth personnel (which could mean about anything).

Plastic Logic demonstrated a compelling new electronic reader this evening. Still a prototype, it is expected to launch in 2010.
The reader uses E-ink on a plastic substrate, making the device light, thin and durable. It's a full 8.5 x 11 inch so it will display an entire page of information at actual size.
The screen is capacitive touch, and it is the screen that is used for page turning and navigation. The user interface is still in development, but has the potential to be very intuitive. The reader will also incorporate the ability to annotate documents.
I attended CES Unveiled last night. It's a pre-show event some companies use to highlight their products. LG and Mitsubishi were showing off new thin and 3D displays, but what caught my eye? The unusual Minoru 3D webcam. I must have been tired from the flight. 
The Minoru webcam simply combines images from two individual cameras that are separated by about the same distance as that of the eyes. The encoded image is anaglyph (the kind of image that can be viewed with red and green glasses.) The image quality is therefore not the best, but no special hardware is required to view the images, other than the glasses. The file formats are standard, so they can be shared and viewed as any other video would. The webcam also supports standard 2D.
The Minoru has been available on Amazon for pre-order at $89.95 and is expected to begin shipping today.

Infocus has a new budget projector available for home theater use. Billed as a lower cost alternative to the IN80 series, the X9 is a third of the cost at $1099.
The projector uses a 16:9 aspect ratio 720p DLP imager. There are lots of video input options, including HDMI, component, S-video and VGA.
The X9 could be a great way for some to get a big screen without a big price. But the lower price comes with loss of features some might find unpalatable. For example, in addition to the lower resolution imager, contrast ratio is 2500:1 (as opposed to 10,000:1, and the zoom range of the lens is smaller. On the other hand, luminance and power consumption are better.
Sony is releasing a new e-book, the PRS-700 that has some significant upgrades to their previous models. Two display improvements will make an enormous difference in usability.
First, the screen is touch sensitive. Users can turn the page by swiping a finger across the page, a more natural motion that avoids the problem of placing buttons convenient for all users. Notes can be made in documents and a stylus is included for highlighting text. Sounds like it is converging on the iRex iLiad.
Second, an LED illuminator is included for people who like to read in the dark. I've heard a lot of comments on this one and expect that it will be a popular feature.
The new Reader will be available next month for about $400. Pre-order at the Sony website.
Akihabranews.com reports that Epson is releasing two projectors for professional use.
Both feature the 3LCD technology and provide a contrast ratio of 2,000:1. They also have a USB port and automatic keystone correction.
The EB-X6 has a brightness of 2,200 lumens and XGA resolution.
The EB-W6 is WXGA resolution at 2,000 lumens. It also adds HDMI input, 7W speaker (upgraded from 1W) and SD card slot.
Expected cost of the EB-X6 is 550€ ($814) and the EB-W6 is 650€ ($963).
